Education in Czech Republic

Prague School of Economics (VŠE), founded in 1953, is the country's largest state economic university. VŠE offers applicants a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and MBA programs. The university has five faculties:

- Faculty of Finance and Accounting;
- Faculty of International Relations;
- Faculty of Business Economics;
- Faculty of Informatics and Statistics;
- Faculty of National Economics;

Training is held in accordance with the principles of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).

Currently, 15,000 students study at the Higher School of Economics. At the VŠE, undergraduate studies are conducted in Czech, English and Russian, and master's and doctoral studies are taught in Czech and English.

VŠE is highly regarded both in the Czech Republic and abroad. The Higher School of Economics is included in the Financial Times as part of the Eduniversal Ranking project and has for a long time held a position as one of the best “business schools” in Central and Eastern Europe. Two master's programs have received prestigious international EPAS accreditation from EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development). The international MBA program is accredited by FIBAA (Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation), it also has accreditation CAMBAS (Czech Association of MBA Schools), which in turn is a member of EQUAL.

The Faculty of Finance and Accounting has received professional accreditation from the international the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Accreditation EQUIS classifies the Faculty of Business Economics as one of the 1% best business schools in the world.

The teaching staff consists of more than 600 qualified academic staff. In addition to studying specialized subjects, much attention is paid to the study of foreign languages. Students can study English, German, French, Russian, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish and Chinese.

VŠE provides students with a quality base and a good environment for studying. The specialized library contains more than 430,000 books and 330,000 periodicals. Students can use hundreds of computers and the modern information system InISIS in the area of the School of Economics. The VŠE has a hostel with 4,500 places and also has a number of gyms and sport grounds.

The Higher School of Economics collaborates with more than 250 partner universities on 4 continents. More than 2,000 students participate in exchange programs annually. VŠE is a member of a number of international organizations CEMS (the Global Alliance in Management Education ) and PIM.

Graduates of the Higher School of Economics successfully realize their potential in the labor market in the fields of industry, banking, accounting and auditing, trade, marketing and in the field of information technology.

Faculty of Finance and Accounting

The Faculty of Finance and Accounting at the University of Economics in Prague was established on July 1, 1991 as part of organizational changes of the VŠE in 1989. The foundation of the faculty was created on the basis of two departments existing at that time: the Department of Finance and Credit, and the Department of Accounting, of which Pedagogy also became a part. These departments existed in the VŠE in Prague in various modifications from the moment of its foundation in 1953.


In today's time there are 7 departments at the Faculty:

  • Banking and insurance,
  • Economic Teaching Methodology,
  • Finance and Enterprise Valuation,
  • Financial Accounting and Auditing,
  • Monetary Theory and Politics,
  • Public Finance.

These main departments are supplemented by two institutes - the Institute of Strategic Investment and the Institute for Energetic Economy.


Currently, about 90 academic experts work at the faculty and more than 2800 students study at all training programs.


The goal of the Faculty of Finance and Accounting in Prague is a constant leading position in the discipline of finance and accounting between universities in Central and Eastern Europe. According to the faculty, education is based on the principles of social responsibility and leads students to ethical behavior, individual and social responsibility, as well as to expand their own thinking and knowledge.


The main mission of the faculty is to provide education in the framework of accredited educational programs, to develop research activities. The faculty actively cooperates with other universities, state institutions, enterprises and other facilities at the state and international level.

Faculty of International Relations

The Faculty of International Relations is one of the largest faculties at the University of Economics, Prague. The faculty develops education and research primarily in the field of international businedd, international politics and diplomacy, tourism and international politics, as well as political science. The main distinguishing element of the Faculty of International Relations is a high degree of internationality and a focus on the development of foreign languages among students. The Faculty of International Relations was the first faculty that managed to achieve accreditation for two educational programs under the prestigious EPAS accreditation from EFMD.


The mission of the Faculty of International Relations is to develop education and knowledge in the field of international economic and political relations, as well as the provision of internationally recognized educational programs based on critical thinking and openness, personal and social responsibility.


The Faculty of International Relations is recognized as the best education and research institutу in the field of international economic and political relations in the Czech Republic. With its internationalization strategy and an internationally recognized learning process and continuous quality enhancement, the Faculty of International Relations has been recognized as one of the top three highly ranked institutions in the region of Central and Eastern Europe.

Faculty of Business Economics

The Faculty of Business Economics prepares future managers who have high knowledge and skills in the areas of management, business finance, marketing, business, personalistics, logistics, and other areas so that they can succeed in the international labor market. Much attention is paid to internationalization - conducting classes in a foreign language, foreign trips for students and teachers and international studies.


The Faculty of Business Economics has received one of the most prestigious awards - international EQUIS accreditation, which only 1% of universities in the world possess. Thanks to EQUIS accreditation, the faculty strengthened its position on the Financial Times ranking along with the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of St. Gallen, the University of Sydney and the University of Cologne.

Faculty of Informatics and Statistics

The Faculty of Informatics and Statistics presents departments and training programs that deal with information systems and statistical, econometric and other mathematical methods used in all areas of economic life. It is a modern and rapidly developing discipline. The goal of all educational programs is to combine knowledge and skills with practice. Thanks to this, graduates of the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics are highly valued in the labor market.


About 2,600 students study at the faculty. The faculty closely cooperates with institutes like ČVUT, with the statistics service, the department of information theory and automation of the Czech Republic and with a growing number of foreign universities.

Faculty of National Economics

The Faculty of National Economics trains specialists with professional economic qualifications who work in the private and public sectors both in the Czech Republic and abroad. The faculty provides students with education in a wide range of subjects: economic, legal and other social sciences.


The teaching staff is represented by a number of leaders in senior positions in both government and business sectors.


The faculty offers a wide range of studies in the field of economics and related fields and, consequently, a high level of university education.


The program is aimed not only at the study of economic theory, but also the use of economics in practice. During the training, students undergo internships in companies, ministries and non-profit organizations.


The faculty actively participates in the international exchange program, and every fifth student you will meet in the corridors and classrooms of the Faculty of National Economics is from abroad.

Faculty of Management in Jindrichuv Hradec

The faculty was founded in 1994 and is currently the youngest and the only VSE faculty outside of Prague. The faculty conducts training in management programs with several specializations and provides students with rich management knowledge not only in theory but also in practice. Graduates work as middle-level managers in the commercial sector or in public institutions, and can also work in consulting firms and etc.
